WHO NO KNOW GO KNOW

WHO NO KNOW MUST KNOW.

In the cause of implementing my laid down plans for this year world environment day celebration, i met with some young and old people around my locality here in Lagos. I took my time to ask a sample of their population questions on what is happening today but i was greatly surprised at their various responses. None of them knew what exactly June 5 was all about. Even when i was explaining to them what today was all about they seem to be uninterested with their discouraging response showing glaringly to me the level of their ignorance on the sustainable management of our environment.

No wonder waste and debris are dropped at the water ways causing hindrance to the free flow of our waste water thereby resulting in erosion and on the larger side flood. No wonder indiscriminate bush burning persist in the midst of civilisation bringing about loss of earth's riches in biodiversity and loss of our precious forest land area and resources. No wonder the misuse of the environment by some people because it is hard for them to give what they don't have. Must we continue in this trend? Must we continue to leave in this ignorant state without allowing the breeze of change to transform our thinking and mindset on the need to manage and protect the environment? Must the educated keep mute while those who have no knowledge about the environment continue with their destructive action on it? What about the consequences of their actions and that of our inaction on the environment?

This is the major reason why environmentalists all across the world have set aside June 5 of every year to celebrate this wonderful complex biotic and abiotic community, the natural world where we find our existence. This we do by educating those who don't know much about the environment and its paraphernalia on the need to know so that the world can be a better place for us to live because if this destructive actions on the environment continues, we are only heading towards an irreversible doom one day.

Remember, there is strength and gain in biodiversity. Shun hatred and let's show love to one another without the exemption of animals. I am very sure our environment will be a better place if we can show her greater love than we have for wears , phones and other mundane things made from the environment. According to the popular saying, "cleanliness is next to godliness", let us endeavour to keep our surroundings clean at all time. Adopt the proper and modern way of disposing waste. Plant a tree to mitigate the effect of some obnoxious gases on the environment and at least the oxygen it produces will be good for us and our neighbours.

If you are yet to join this celebration, you can join by educating someone around you on the need to sustainably use, manage and protect the environment our common asset.
